A Compilation of Found Imagery and Text

Refaat Alareer was a poet, professor of literature, and public intellectual from Gaza, Palestine, who was assassinated in December 2023 by the Israeli occupation. This book is a collection of social media images Refaat shared in the decade prior to his death, as well as his poetry.
Organized thematically, it preserves glimpses of his everyday life—family, academia, food, nature, memes, writings by himself and others—alongside the other side of daily life in Gaza: surviving under violent occupation. Bringing these images from the digital sphere to paper, lest his online account disappear, is an effort to honor the memory of Refaat Alareer, who stood up for Gaza and told us: “If I must die, you must live to tell my story.”
